I used to have Dreams of sadness and dreams of darkness. But Jesus Christ has come to give me light. Now my dreams are life and of life eternal with Him in glory.

Devotions notes from YF (26 Feb 2006)

I hope these notes that i have taken would be of great to use to my brothers and sisters in Christ who are doing their devotions.

Devotions sharing by Reverend Seet
1) Devotions must be done daily
2) Devotions is a time to spend alone with God
3) Best time for devotions should be in the morning when our minds are fresh.
4) Fix a time for devotions
5) Cultivate a habit for devotions, so that we should continue to do it daily
6) Find a QUIET place (so that we do not get distracted)
7) Have a Bible (preferably in Large Print so that its easy to read a few chapters without feeling tired)
8) Prepare our hearts before we start and not just our minds
9) Read God's Word systematically using Aids (such as devotional material)
10) Read Aloud to allow us to memorise God's Word
11) Memorise the Word and Review it from time to time
12) ACTS (Adoration of God, Confession of Sins, Thanksgiving to God for all things and Supplications for others)
13) Have a logbook of the date of our prayers, the details of our prayers and a column to fill when God answers our prayers
14) Read the Bible through (read a chapter a day to complete the Bible within 3 years and 3-4 chapters a day to compete the Bible within a year)


Mary's Sharing
1) God's word must touch our hearts and convict us to do our devotions
2) Devotion is the expressing of our love and loyalty to God
3) Start our devotions with prayer (ask God for His forgiveness for our sins with a repentant heart, make intercessionary prayer for others) Pray standing up to avoid falling asleep in the morning
4) Read 2 chapters of the New Testament in the morning
5) Read the commentaries for a deeper understanding of God's word and to know the deeper meaning of His Word
6) During the day, think about God and talk to God in your heart. Give thanks to God for all things and have communion with Him
7) End the day with the reading of a chapter from the Old Testament.
